The mechanical bond in biological systems

چکیده
The field of mechanically interlocked molecules (MIMs) has advanced rapidly in recent years, with much work focused on their use materials, sensing, and catalysis. However, the MIMs biology biomedicine been limited, despite identification naturally occurring DNA proteins potential advantages mechanical bond fields such as nanomedicine tissue engineering. Difficulties synthesis MIMs, along limited solubility stability biological media, have until recently impeded wider application biology. Contemporary advances have, however, enabled a broader integration biology; interlocking endows these systems unique functional advantages. Herein, we summarize small-molecule, biologically derived, polymeric biology, highlighting synergies ripe for future exploration.

Cooperativity in biological systems
Living organisms can sense and respond to external and internal stimuli. Response isdemonstrated in many forms including modulation of gene expression profiles, motility, secretion, cell death, etc. Nevertheless, all forms share a basic property: they depend on sensingsmall changes in the concentration of an effector molecule or subtle conformational changes ina protein and invoking the appropri...

Strong and stable under tension? In this review we present the recent efforts investigating the mechanochemical properties of interlocked structures by atomic force microscopy and polymer mechanochemistry.
متن کاملMechanostereochemistry and the mechanical bond.
The chemistry of mechanically interlocked molecules (MIMs), in which two or more covalently linked components are held together by mechanical bonds, has led to the coining of the term mechanostereochemistry to describe a new field of chemistry that embraces many aspects of MIMs, including their syntheses, properties, topologies where relevant and functions where operative. During the rapid deve...
